4:40am: The dreaded alarm sound after a restless night of shallow slumber. Time to “rise and shine”, get the lenses in (else I’m blind as a bat), and stumble down the Pretoria home of my cousin Marcus.
4:55am: I showered. Had to. Feel more alive if I do. But now I’m late, forcing some Woolworths muesli with raspberry and litchi fat free yoghurt downward - a similar force to race morning.
Some bits and pieces from the past few days. No significant reporting to be done. Getting through the work. Got to see my middle sister which was a treat on New Years Eve. Heard a class Oz athlete will be out next weekend (so went for a paddle…). And decided as a resolution, I need to be more professional. If only you knew, but the small things are about to change.
A house in Betty’s Bay. If you’re going to do something, you may as well do it with passion.
Had a fine lunch overlooking the new harbour in Hermanus yestterday. A three-course meal including too much Sauvignon Blanc. I mention this to sketch how unlikely the ride to come felt at some tipsy point.
